Advice from the Owner
For three years, I have purchased Garden in the Box kits, gradually transforming one third of the grass to native plants. Most have flourished, growing sturdy and strong. With abundant rain this fall, the asters and red jupiter have burst into bloom and deck my front yard with purple and red beauty! What has worked well is scraping down a few inches into the clay and sand, and adding good nutrient soil on top, giving the plants a good start in rooting. I also add leaf mulch in the fall to protect the plants. I have found that the plants purchased and planted in the fall seem to thrive well. I've had some struggles with getting the grasses to grow, but it is a small frustration. I am so impressed with the plants from Garden in the Box that are flourishing. I eagerly look forward to seeing the newly planted Salvia and other natives grow, attracting more pollinators and hummingbirds!
